Nowadays,UHF RFID technology provides a very successful race timing system to record and measure the starting and finishing time of athletes in motorcycle racing,marathon, cycling, and go-kart. Using UHF RFID tags in a running race becomes more and more popular after the initiative of RFID inlays. Since RFID inlays are cost-efficient and can be deployed flexibly, they’re widely used at multiple points along the route of race to measure time, speed and total distance travelled by a participant.

Trail racing, triathlons, team obstacle and ultra-racing, motorbike and vehicle races are all different types of timed races in which manual methods to track participant’s distance won’t work. However, UHF RFID tags and inlays play a dominant to measure the performance of cyclist, bikers and runners.  



The working of the RFID-based race timing method requires RFID tags and readers. Participants the wear RFID tags or motorcycle and bikes having tags on the front while running and RFID reader activates this tag through RF signals when the runner crosses start or finish line. All the information carried by RFID reader for a particular tag’s ID is then transmitted to timing software, which determines the race number associated with that ID and allots a timestamp to it. Therefore, this simple and effective RFID-based race timing method brings accurate results and provides a real-time monitoring system.
