Background of the project

Industrial gases play a vital role in the operations of manufacturing, electronics and healthcare industries. These gases are delivered to the customers through pipelines, tankers and cylinders. These cylinders move across the supply chain through different channel partners- dealers, warehouses, customers and back to factories for refilling. Theses gas companies make huge investments in cylinders to deliver gases to their customers. As each regular cylinder costs between $150 and $200, the overall asset value is very high. Tracking these cylinders is very complex due many factors like varied gases being manufactured, various channel partners and assets.

Many gas cylinders with unauthorized gas filling, overdue inspection, unregistered, unexplained loss, etc. And the explosion of gas cylinders occurs from time to time. These conditions pose a serious threat to the assets of the enterprise and the safety of the people.

Solution

Install RFID tags on gas cylinders, and install RFID readers or RFID handheld terminals at filling stations, maintenance companies, gas stations, and transportation vehicles. In each process, the cylinder label is identified by a reader or handheld terminals, and the current status information of the cylinder is automatically obtained.

Application Effectiveness

1. Auto updating the cylinder details like shipment, refilling, cylinder return into the system eliminates any possible error.

2. Warehouse cylinder stocks can be counted in a fraction of seconds.

3. Time to time maintenance of cylinders improve efficiency & avoid unplanned maintenance which increases revenues by reducing the turnaround time.

4. Complete history of the cylinders that helps to identify the cylinders which are due for test & assures the complete safety to the workers & customers.

5. Decrease in lost cylinders or cylinders credited to the wrong account. Greater efficiency in inventory used and ordered.

6. Able to prevent pilferage/theft of cylinders
